Celebrating Spring
Almost Home likes to remind all of us to celebrate life daily. This month, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and ”March Madness.” This is the time of year when everyone is Irish, and when college basketball fans cheer on their favorite team during the various tournaments that are held across the country. No matter how you celebrate this month, we invite you to do it with joy.
Winter’s End
We have also been sharing how each month got its name. We hope this month finds us more peaceful and joyful than it sounds because the name comes from the Roman god of war, Mars. March was also traditionally the time for festivals in many cultures because Winter was ending, and people started coming back outside to enjoy nicer weather.
How do you plan to celebrate Spring as we continue to recover from the pandemic? Can you get outside more and enjoy some fresh air? Do you enjoy walking or working in the garden? Maybe you can get even more adventurous and go for a bike ride.
Physical Activity is Important
We all know that physical activity helps us maintain our strength. But some of us do not like to exercise in traditional ways. If so, find something active that you enjoy. Do you love the beach? Then maybe taking a walk along the ocean will work for you. Are you a shopper? Maybe moving through the aisles of your favorite stores will help you get more active. Do you dance? Put on some of your favorite music and get moving.
Research shows that physical activity improves both our mood and self-esteem. In part, this is because our bodies release endorphins when we are active. These chemicals work in a way that naturally gives us a better feeling about almost everything in our lives.
Celebrate Joy
So how will you get active this month? We invite you to start by dancing with us on St. Patrick’s Day and then move through your month with Joy. As Mother Teresa said, “Joy is very infectious, so always be full of joy!”
